The Waverley Prize 2014 is open to painting, printmaking, works on paper and street art works. This year’s judging panel consists of Contemporary Australian Painter, Del Kathryn Barton, Gallery Director, Dominik Mersch, and National Art School Gallery Curator, Judith Blackall.

Winning work – African Animal Studies – 66cm x 100cm – Mixed media on paper

Now in its fifth year, this exciting art competition is open to national and international artists for small-scale artworks. Entrants may submit paintings, drawings, photographs and all 2D artworks up to 61cm (24 inches) in any direction. The judging is based on three equally evaluated criteria of creativity, originality and skill with $10 000 awarded to the winner.

Embers of Empathy is a unique collaboration between one of the world’s leading humanitarian organisations and Australia’s fine artists, to raise funds to support people and communities affected by natural disasters.

The works I have created and those of the other artists involved will be auctioned, with all proceeds going towards the vital disaster relief and recovery work of Red Cross.
